AT&T to increase prices on first day of May

AT&T will make yet another significant price increase on May 1. The nation’s top long distance provider will increase their interstate rates 43% from 7 to 10 cents per minute on their 7 Cents Offer no monthly fee plan. This is one of the largest rate increases for AT&T in an already active year of increases.

This year AT&T has already increased monthly fees, services charges, calling card rates, international call rates and mobile termination rates.

The AT&T One Rate 7 Cent Plus plan remains unchanged and is still available with a $4.95 monthly fee.

The other major carriers will join in with fee increases. On May 1, MCI will increase its operator assistance per call surcharge from $4.99 to $5.99. On May 2, Sprint increases the Casual Caller per minute rate 22% from $.73 to $.89 per minute.

"This particular AT&T plan also has very high instate rates," says Bill Hardekopf, CEO of www.SaveOnPhone.com ( http://www.saveonphone.com ). "The major carriers continue to increase their revenues in 2003 through frequent rate and fee increases. Consumers can save significantly if they move their long distance service to one of the high-quality, low priced carriers."

SaveOnPhone.com is a consumer resource that ranks the lowest rate long distance carriers based on rate, billing increments, monthly fee, USF fee and customer service wait time. It provides detailed rate and fee information that is often difficult to find in the fine print. It also compares and reviews bundled plans with local and long distance service, calling card rates, and toll free rates.
