Author to headline UTM Technology Showcase, speaker series


Casey Green, founder of the Campus Computing Project, will visit UTM to speak on the topic of “Mark Hopkins and the Digital Log,” at 7:30 p.m., Feb. 28, in Watkins Auditorium in Boling University Center.

The event is free and open to the public.

Green also will speak at 11 a.m. March 1 in Room 111, Boling University Center, as part of the UTM technology showcase. His topic will be, “Beginning the Third Decade: From Great Aspirations to Assessment and Accountability.”

The Campus Computing Project is the largest continuing study of the role of instructional technology in American higher education. Green also is visiting scholar at the School of Educational Studies of the Claremont Graduate University in Claremont, Calif., and visiting professor at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio.

He has authored, co-authored and edited more than three dozen books, published research reports and articles in academic journals and professional publications. “Digital Tweed,” Green’s monthly column on technology and higher education, is now in its fifth year and appears in “Syllabus Magazine.”

In 2002, Green received the first Educause Award for leadership in public policy and practice. The award cites his “prominence in the arena of national and international technology agendas.”

Green is a graduate of New College in Sarasota, Fla. He received a master’s degree from Ohio State University and a doctorate at the University of California in Los Angeles. His appearance is co-sponsored by Honors Programs and the Office of Information Technology Services at UTM.
