Baseball drops series, wins one against OVC foe Tennessee Tech over weekend


The Skyhawks (8-24/3-8 OVC) defeated host Tennessee Tech (8-27/3-8 OVC) 3-2 in the second game of a three-game Ohio Valley Conference series this weekend.

However, the Skyhawks came up short in the series as Tech claimed the first game 5-2 and the third game 8-0.

Justin Bryant earned his third win of the season by pitching six innings in the 3-2 victory Saturday.

Bryant scattered nine hits and gave up two earned runs. The junior right-hander is 3-4 on the season.

Junior Brett Spivy went two-for-three at the plate with a home run. Zane Gresback, a junior college transfer, went one-for-two at the plate with two runs scored.

Nick Luper went two-for-two in the game.

The Skyhawks scored a run in the third to tie the game at 1-1 and then scored again in the fifth to tie the game at 2-2. Spivy’s home run in the sixth was the game-winner.

Tech won the opening game of the series 5-2 with a four-run eighth inning. Spivy collected two of the Skyhawks’ seven hits in the game. Tech claimed the series with an 8-0 shutout in game three.

The Skyhawks managed four hits and committed three errors. Gresback, the designated hitter, had two of the Skyhawks’ four hits in the game.

The Skyhawks return to action at 3 p.m., Tuesday, April 19 when they host Southern Illinois at Skyhawk Field.

The Skyhawks will return to OVC action this weekend, April 23 and 24 when they host Austin Peay in a three-game series. Action gets under way at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 23 with a doubleheader.
