Comedian Melissa Rauch entertains UTM campus with wit, experience

Melissa Rauch performed in the SAC 909 Comedy Series and had the audience relating through laughter to everything she said.

Rauch is a comedian originally from New Jersey now living in New York, that has been making people laugh from a very young age. Rauch can be seen on VH1’s Best Week Ever.

She began her stand-up adventure during her second year in college, which may explain the ability she had to connect to the audience at UTM.

The beginning of her routine began with a horrible situation to a male in any relationship, when a girl asks for a small bite of her boyfriend’s meal. Even though Rauch is not over five feet tall, she made the beast that women can become in this situation come to life through her voice changes and actions.

The show continued with skits about things like roommate problems, the shear horror of being a bridesmaid and the unpleasant experience of summer jobs.

“She was one of the funniest comedians that have visited UTM’s campus,” said Helen Manson, a sophomore Wildlife Biology major from Jonesboro. “Having met her, she is also a very cool person off stage as well.”

Rauch’s interaction with the audience was very entertaining. She would take their simple answers and relate them in a comment about her mom or an experience with beauty queen roommates. She told of one beauty queen she lived with, the things that her roommate would say and what she sounded like answering a pageant question randomly.

The show was filled with lively impressions and stories, with Rauch full of energy throughout the whole show.

“SAC always does a wonderful job bringing activities to campus and this show was no different. It was hilariously funny,” said Kara Goddard, a senior Biology major from Paris.
