Dealing with problems the R. Kelly way


The Ladies of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. hosted their version of the mini-movie musical series, Trapped in the Closet, Parts I-V on Nov. 14, 2005 at 8:13p.m. in the Watkins Auditorium.

Trapped in the Closet is originally a 25-part mini-movie musical series written by R&B artist, R-Kelly, focusing on different issues that so often occur in relationships. This particular version of Trapped in the Closet, Parts I-V contains issues such as cheating, lying and drinking. Humor and suspense add to the twist that each of the guys are being deceived by the main character, which is played by Mary Cheers. The other characters include: Chris, played by Melvin Isabel; the voice of Chris, played by Jay Williamson; Tim ,played by Nathan Harrison; Sandra, played by Tecora Walker; the voice of Sandra, played by April Beard; Roger, played by Cori Hill and the voice of Roger, played by Jason Hollowell.

Sherika Norris, a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., is responsible for the outstanding production of their version of Trapped in the Closet, Parts I-V. “We had been promoting alcohol awareness all week, and we decided to end the week with an event that would bring out different issues that people could relate to,” said Norris, a senior Communications major from Memphis. “We had some of UTM’s most talented students involved in the production of this mini-movie musical series.”

It appears that the audience enjoyed the play just as much as Norris ejoyed writing the play.

“I really enjoyed this version of Trapped in the Closet,” said Ashley Hodges, a senior Communications major from Memphis. “It’s just as good as R-Kelly’s version. I look forward to seeing more parts, if there are more parts to come.”

Sherika added that she had great expections for Trapped in the Closet, Parts I-V and hope that the audience enjoyed it. She said, “It was another way to get the campus involved, aside from the usual Greek activities. Trapped in the Closet, Parts I -V was a big success. Parts VI-X is set for production Spring 2006.”
