Editorial: UTM students shouldn’t be denied because of clothes

Students complained to The Pacer they were turned away from Sunday Brunch this week because they were “inappropriately dressed.”

Sodexho should remember that their main consumer base is students. If Sodexho starts turning away students, they anger their main souce of revenue. How many students will it take before we get angered enough to stop using their services?

It’s wonderful that Sodexho wants to make a good impression on the community. But at what expense? Who matters more: the community or the students?

If Sodexho is going to impose a dress code, they should advertise this rule ahead of time.

Obviously, this issue is important to students because The Pacer has received two Letters to the Editor about this matter in less than 24 hours.

Additionally, this dilemma does not warrant a discussion with SGA. Make a decision, inform the students and move on.

For many students on campus, Skyhawk Cafeteria is the only place that is available to eat. When students are turned away, they sometimes have no other option of where to eat.

We can understand that Sodexho doesn’t want students to show up in their pajamas, but what is so wrong with khaki shorts? College students don’t worry about how they’re dressed half of the time, and they definitely don’t worry about how they’re dressed on a Sunday morning.

Because the cafeteria is here for the students, Sodexho should make every effort to appease the students. It’s nice that Sodexho wants to promote UTM, but they shouldn’t forget the reason why they’re here.
