Football player turned music promoter to speak

Myles Luster, Warner/Elektra/Atlantic Corporation regional sales manager/urban music, is the keynote speaker at the annual Communications Career Day Awards and Recognition Banquet, at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, March 30, at the UTM.

Communications Career Day, which also includes a career fair, is designed to bridge the gap between the university and communications professions. Area communications professionals are invited to attend.

Luster graduated from UTM in 1989 with a bachelor's degree in communications. He was a UTM football player during the 1986 and 1987 seasons and, in 1988, was a student assistant football coach of wide receivers, the year the team went 11-2 and was Gulf South Conference champions.

He has served as an account merchandising representative, field marketing representative and sales representative before assuming his current position in 1999. He has received several awards, including the Warner/Elektra/Atlantic Corp. Regional Sales Manager/Urban Music of the Year in 2002.

The luncheon, capped with scholarship and awards presentations to Communications majors and six high school communications scholarship winners, will be in Duncan Ballroom of Boling University Center.

The Career Fair is slated from 1:45 - 3 p.m. in 206ABC UC. Students will be able to view displays and talk with broadcasting, news-editorial, public relations and visual communication professionals.
