Freshmen Council members sworn into office


Thursday night's SGA meeting was more than the passage of Senate bills and resolutions. The newly-elected officers for Freshmen Council were sworn in by Chief Justice Nikki Draper.

President for this year's Freshmen Council is James Orr, Jr. Vice-President for the council is Erin Smith. This year's secretary-general is Rachel Albritton. Allison Martinez is the parliamentarian.

Freshmen Council functions in conjunction with the Student Government Association (SGA). The advisor for Freshmen Council is SGA vice-president Beau Pemberton. Pemberton will work with the group throughout the year.

Freshmen Council members are the representatives of the freshman class in SGA. They are to attend their own meetings held every other Tuesday at 9 p.m. In addition to this, members are to attend the regular Senate meetins that take place every other Thursday at 9 p.m.

Committee meetings are expected of the new members as well. Committees that member will attend include campus observation, minority affairs, communications, and academic affairs.

Secretary-General Albritton says she excited about the new position.

"I'm excited because it will give me a good leadership role in the school," Albritton said.

The next meeting of Freshmen Council will convene on Tuesday, September 18, at 9 p.m. in the legislative chambers of the University Center.

Freshmen Council meetings and SGA meetings are open to the public and everyone is encouraged to attend to express their views and concerns.
