H.Y.P.E. brings Christians together

Do you enjoy serving the Lord, meeting new people, and having fun? Well, if you do I know a ministry that is composed of all of the previous statements and much more. This ministry is entitled H.Y.P.E. Holy (Young People Empowered).

H.Y.P.E. is the mobile link of the 2 Timothy college ministry of Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church where Rev. Alvin J. Summers serves as Pastor.

H.Y.P.E. is a ministry open to any college and young adult person. It was established Fall 2003 by Pastor Alvin J. Summers and UTM student Minister Candice L. Lampkin. H.Y.P.E. includes the sub-ministries of Drama, Pantomime Dance, Choir, Poetry, Step, Rap, and Media . Also, H.Y.P.E. meets every Tuesday night at 7 p.m. at the Baptist Student Center to have bible study and every Sunday morning at 9:30 a.m. at Oak Grove Baptist Church to have Sunday school.

The ministry partakes in community service, mentoring junior high & high school students, and social activities. Our purpose is to serve as an atmosphere that is fun, uplifting, life impacting, lively, and especially where students are not ashamed to lift up the name of Jesus Christ in a unique way. The mission of H.Y.P.E. is to introduce college students to Jesus Christ and to nurture a relationship with Him through a study of scriptures that will empower them to live by the direction of the Holy Spirit.

One of the best ways we can reach the UTM campus and the entire Martin community is through the semester series of HYPE NITE. The 2004-2005 H.Y.P.E. theme: “A P.H.A.T. Purpose” (Praising Him Abundantly in Time & Talents). HYPE NITE IV is a staged dramatic/comedy production of college students struggling to find their purpose in life incorporating Dance, Step, Song, Poetry, and Rap!!!!

Our up coming event is the H.Y.P.E. Weekend Explosion which includes:

• HYPE NITE IV Friday, April 29th at 7p.m. at Southside Baptist Church • P.H.A.T. Praise Rally Sunday, May 1st at 5p.m. in the Watkins Auditorium
