No more questions; it's time to be complacent

Letter to the Editor

Complacency? Is that the goal?

Hey, I got an idea, let’s just accept everything told to us. Everything’s gonna’ be just fine. What your father did is the right way. Accept it.

Pop the clutch, everything’s all right. This is just a different high school, an extension of the house, Momma still makes supper, things will fix themselves. Who cares that the federal deficit approaches 500 billion? Who cares that interest rates continue to rise? Everyone takes care of everything for me.

I don’t know what the big deal is. I mean, I end sentences all the time with verbs. It takes way too much time to stop and think about anything -- that’s why I pay taxes. I watch television, sometimes two or three hours a night, and I know the latest styles. Cultural imperialism? I am cultural imperialism. What I’m really wondering is, why does anyone really care what’s going on in other parts of the world? We live in America, the breadbasket, the land of opportunity. Who cares if the president lies, if there’s a shadow government behind the government- I don’t even know who runs the Federal Reserve. I live here, rolling fields, pristine skies. I’m lucky if the cops will come and respond to a call within thirty minutes, so I don’t really press my luck.

Everything’s okay, isn’t it?
