Skyhawks down Mustangs, 105-78


The University of Tennessee at Martin corralled the Central Baptist College Mustangs with two solid second-half scoring runs and double-digit-scoring from seven players.

The host Skyhawks evened their men's basketball record at 2-2 with a 105-78 win over Central Baptist College Monday night in the Elam Center. Central Baptist College falls to 6-5 on the year.

The Skyhawks will wrap up the month with Saturday's game in Nashville against Vanderbilt University. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. at Memorial Gym on the Vandy campus.

Junior college transfer and the Ohio Valley Conference's Newcomer of the Week, Justin Smith led the Skyhawks with 24 points. It's the third consecutive game where Smith has scored double-digits. Smith also was perfect at the free throw line on five attempts.

Cleve Woodfork added 14 points, while Will Lewis tossed in 13 points. Senior Kenan Asceric knocked down a pair of three-pointers and finished the game with a dozen points. Jeremy Kelly, Jared Newson and Chris Carter tossed in 10 points each.

Voja Radosavljevic led Central Baptist with 29 points, while Robert Davis tossed in 19 points.

Central Baptist kept things interesting for most of the first half as the game was tied six times and the lead changed three times.

The Skyhawks soared in the second half, opening with a 12-2 run that left Central Baptist playing catching up for the rest of the game. Late in the half, the Skyhawks used a 15-2 run to coral what was left of the Mustangs.

The Skyhawks scored 31 points off Central Baptist turnovers, and outscored the visitors 42-24 in the paint. The Skyhawks shot 52 percent from the field.
