Soccer snaps undefeated streak in two weekend matches

UTM women’s soccer team split its games this weekend with one loss against Stephen F. Austin University (SFA) last Friday and a victory over Arkansas State University (ASU) Sunday.

The Skyhawks entered the weekend sporting a 1-0-1 record. They were defeated 5-2 by SFA Friday, making their record an even 1-1-1.

UTM held the Ladyjacks scoreless during the first half of the game. Skyhawk sophomore Katie Jackson netted the only goal either team would see as the half came to a close.

The Skyhawks scored only one more time in the game.

Sophomore Dani Myrick added the goal to the board. She was unassisted in the play.

The Ladyjacks overpowered the Skyhawk defense scoring all five of their goals in the second half of the game.

UTM continues to trail SFA in the all time series, 0-2-0. The Skyhawks defeated the ASU Lady Indians 1-0 Sunday.

The only goal posted by the UTM offense was the only goal it would need. Myrick came through in the first five minutes of the game.

Myrick received a pass from freshman Kindal Keim in the box and finished the effort by netting the only goal of the game. Keim was credited with the assist.

An outstanding effort by UTM goalkeeper Megan Dempsey kept the Skyhawks alive as she stopped the Lady Indian offense with 11 saves in the game. The Lady Indians out-shot UTM 20-7.

“We learned a lot this weekend,” said Skyhawk team captain Lindsey Tilk.

“Because of the way we played this weekend, we will be better prepared for our upcoming games.” UTM returns to Skyhawk field at 5 p.m. today in the Skyhawk Invitational as they take on Southeast Louisiana State.
