'Steppin' for charity

The annual Steppin’ competition concluded Greekfest 2006 Friday night in the Fieldhouse. Eight organizations competed.

Alpha Delta Pi and Chi Omega tied for first place in the sorority division. “All the bruises and late night practices were worth it once we stepped on stage. All we wanted to do was make our sisters proud, but getting the trophy was a bonus,” said Jenna Eganey, a member of Alpha Delta Pi’s step team. Erin Brown of Chi Omega said, “We just had a great time and we’re glad all our hard work paid off.”

Alpha Omicron Pi took second place and “Best of Show.” “It wasn’t just for winning a trophy, we were steppin’ for a reason. It meant more to us this year than it has in a long time,” said step team member Jenny Stout.

In the fraternity division, Pi Kappa Alpha won first place and “Best of Show.” “We were all excited because we put in a lot of hard work and having won both first place and best of show, it really paid off,” said Rusty Young of Pi Kappa Alpha’s step team.

Alpha Gamma Rho, who tricked the crowd into thinking they weren’t going to perform, won second place out of the fraternities. Team member Matt Carroll said, “We worked really hard and we are really proud that we placed.”

“Every organization did a great job tonight. It’s always fun to watch steppin’ and know that all of the money is going to a good cause,” said Brandon Niblock, a member of Kappa Alpha.

All of the proceeds from last week’s Greekfest activities will be donated to the American Heart Association.
