UTM Technology Showcase today

The Fifth Annual Technology Showcase is today in the UC.

The showcase is on the main floor of the UC from 1-6 p.m. There are several events taking place during this time. Representatives from such companies as Dell, Gateway, Apple, and others will have displays of their latest technology. The displays are set up for you to look and see how their latest technology works.

Dr. James I. Penrod, the guest speaker for today's event, is speaking in the Watkins Auditorium from 1-2 p.m. Penrod will discuss the results of the latest research for higher education regarding today's technology. His source is the ECAR: IT Research for Higher Education. ECAR is the Educause Center of Applied Research.

The showcase also will feature an XBox 360 Gaming Tournament. The tournament begins at 2 p.m. and goes until a champion is crowned. The champion will receive a $50 UTM Computer Store gift certificate.

Also, attendees have a chance to register at the UTM Computer Store from 1-6 p.m. to win an iPod Nano, or a TV, or other computer accessories. The focus for today's Technology Showcase is the concept of greater use of technology in education.

It gives the campus and the local community the opportunity to see UTM's Information Technology Service's projects and processes that use technology. The faculty members and departments use this technology both in and out of the classroom.
