What I've learned, what I want to pass on

As I help prepare this last Pacer edition, I am going to take a moment to reminisce on my time spent here at good old UTM. I began here after attending four other colleges (yes four - I was a bit confused at first), but I came to UTM not too sure this is where I would actually receive a degree.

But I did.

Man, were my parents happy! Well anyway… There are many things I learned while being here so I will just list them for all to read.

  1. I have learned to live without sleep on Fridays due to long hours at The Pacer. (Let me take this opportunity to apologize to my Friday classes teachers, sorry if I was ever late or slept through I am sure your lecture was wonderful)

  2. Attitudes fly around 3 a.m. at The Pacer office, but somehow by 7 a.m., we are all friends again. That is something many people need to learn as well.

  3. That I have truly made friends for life here.

  4. You know the whole “Campus that cares” slogan really is true.

  5. That The Pacer staff does not always look for controversy to cover, it simply finds us.

  6. That there is no need for drama, that is for the drama department.

  7. That Matt C. can be a friend on every other day but Thursday.

  8. That Greg S. is a great features editor, but can’t you cover just one more event?

  9. There are some teachers I recommend students to get to know, Dr. Ogg, Dr. Nanney, Prof. McCutchen, Dr. Hoyer , Prof. Norton and Prof. Robinson.

  10. That all students should get involved and get involved ASAP!

  11. That being a PEP leader does not mean you are “peppy” all the time, it means responsibility and being a leader. Most of all it means making an impact on others, I hope I have done that with my group of freshmen. Good Luck Guys!

  12. To whomever takes my job as advertising manger, bring a blanket and pillow and go ahead and change your address to Gooch Hall because you will spend all of your time here.

  13. That Jana Jones and Melissa Belew were some of the best roommates anyone could ask for.

  14. That Oakhill is a great place to live and party too!

  15. That Patti A. and Crawford were great partners for projects.

  16. That Joey P. is a great ad assistant as well as yearbook editor. And the yearbook staff but in just as many hours at The Pacer staff. Thanks guys!

  17. That the Communications Department really is a just a huge family, so all of you undecided majors go check it out!

  18. That no matter how sick you are in a foreign country (i.e France) they will not take American health insurance and they don't speak good English.

  19. That no matter what, every student (including those without cars) at UTM will get at least one parking ticket.

  20. When you decide to take a international travel study- please learn basic words and do not go when there is a war pending.

  21. Do get to know you professors, don’t just expect them to get to know you.

  22. Communications majors KEEP EVERYTHING for your portfolio, it makes it easier. Also write for The Pacer every semester, so you don’t have to wait till the last minute, like everybody else does!

  23. Finally that I will miss UTM, my friends and professors and I would not take anything for my time spent here.

Too all my friends here at UTM- Thanks for the memories and please remember me when you get famous. I will be glad to do public relations for any of you one day.

Goodbye UTM and look out work-a-day world here I come!
