Following a flurry of petitions and campaign planning, the 2003 Student Government Association elections are set.

For the office of President, Sen. Jason Balestrini, incumbent Vice President Nikki Draper, and Sen. Jennifer Ogg.

Balestrini is a senator from the College of Business and Public Affairs and former Freshman Council President.

Draper is the current Vice President, former senator from the College of Business and Public Affairs and former Vice President of the Freshman Council.

Ogg is a senator from the College of Humanities and Fine Arts and former freshman council member.

Vice Presidential candidates include Chief Justice Beau Pemberton and Sen. Kevin Anderson.

Anderson is a senator from the College of Business and Public Affairs and former Vice President of the Freshman Council.

Pemberton is the Treasurer of the United Residence Hall Association and student member of the UTM Regional Advancement Council.

Sen. Brian Davis and Exec. Assistant Pam Bartholomew will face off for the Secretary General position next year.

Davis served as the Campus Observations committee chair this year. He also has prior experience as a freshman council member.

Bartholomew served as an executive assistant this year to President Eric Tolbert.

The senate ballots are less eventful, with only the College of Business and Public Affairs having only one more candidate than seats open.

Candidates include incumbent Sen. Dusty Dean, Clarissa Porterfield, former Sen. Matt Maxey, Joey Pierce, Laura Harber and Andrew Usery.

SGA insiders indicated earlier this year that up to nine candidates could run for this historically highly contested school.

The ballot for the College of Agriculture and Applied Sciences will include Josh Davis, Robert Hoffman and incumbent Sen. Landon Loveall. Only three seats are open in this college, which lost one seat this year.

Marqueta Abraham and Brien Luck are the only candidates vying for the two seats in the College of Engineering and Natural Sciences.

Candidates for the College of Education and Behavioral Sciences consist of Sen. Candace Tate, Sen. Ann-Marie Lovelace, Sen. Elizabeth Reynolds, and Jeff Hall. Only five seats are up for grabs. One seat will remain vacant through the elections, barring a write-in campaign. Sen. Tate represented the College of Humanities and Fine Arts last term.

Jacob Crouch, Okwede Okoh, Exec. Assistant Beth Anderton, Shellee Williams and Kevin Teets are on the ballot for the College of Humanities and Fine Arts. The college gained two seats this year, up from three.

SGA elections will be held from April 7 and 8, with April 9 used as a runoff day as needed, in the University Center.
